History

The Gadwal region has traditionally been regarded, since ancient times, as a place known for Vedic traditions, Sanskrit learning, and spiritual lineage. According to the traditional accounts of the Matha, approximately 250 years ago the 27th Peethadhipati of Sri Ahobila Matha — Srimad Azhagiya Singar Sri Van Satakopa Sri Veeraragahava Vedanta Yatindra Mahadesikan — visited the Gadwal region. The rulers of the Gadwal Samsthanam are traditionally held to have accepted discipleship under the Acharya and to have received the Pancha Samskaras of the Sri Vaishnava tradition. By the Acharya's grace, the Sannidhi of Sri Yoga Lakshmi Narasimha Swami was established in Gadwal, and the order of worship continued according to the Pancharatra Agama tradition.

Traditional Matha accounts only. No additional historical claims are made.
